Female Infanticide: Do we really want to stop it?

It’s a blatant observation in India that a woman is a women’s biggest enemy. It’s she who instills the venom to bring her the destruction. The issues that are taboo to the society are highly encouraged by them. Female Infanticide a big challenge to Indian society is again a sin that roots from a women’s womb. A very acceptable and common belief to Female Infanticide is that it’s the woman who desires to have a Baby Boy and not their counterparts.

In my opinion they are justified in doing so. Being the mother of her daughter why will she want her to go through what she had suffered all her life. She would hate it to see, when the first time her little angel opens her eyes then she is welcomed by the sympathetic and a gloomy atmosphere. People sympathizing her about the responsibility and the burden she would have to endure all her life. Nobody would like it. Then begins the blame game. If it’s a rural part of India then they are lucky to voice their ugliest opinion and if it’s an urban part then in a very subtle way it would be put across that it’s a curse on the house to have a baby girl. No mother wants her wonder to go through this. For her it’s the priceless gift she got after nine painful months which a man made society can never imagine. Motherhood is a bliss. Having said that we can not overlook the amount of endurance that it demands.

 Now bringing her up in this society is the biggest challenge. How will she explain her 2-3years daughter to protect herself not only from outsiders but from insiders as well. How will she explain her the difference between a touch of affection and a touch full of lust that can be from her uncles, grandfather, brother or for that matter her own father. How will she explain her to dress up like a wag every time so that some moron does not succumb to his hormones. And if she fails to explain her or went through her demands and she was raped then obviously it was her fault as she has provoked the moron. It’s very easy for a man to blame it to the testosterones but they can never ever feel the pain and the trauma that a rape has on any girl. To understand it and feel it you should be a girl.. .Period.

She would have to instill in her that she is a soft target for the family and if they happen to develop any feud with any xyz person then it’s she who would have to take the brunt.  As understood by the society that girl is the izzat of the family so to retaliate pinning down her is the best revenge.  She would have to tell her not to voice her opinion ever in the house or outside. She would have to tell her to be back at home before the sun sets to avoid any unwelcome incidents. She would have to explain her to concentrate on marriage and not career as she has an age bar to bother about. Moreover from the day she is born till the time she is not married parents have to keep aside their happiness and luxuries and start saving money so that they can marry their daughters in a respectable family. Your daughter should be jack of all trades no matter your son chooses to remain dumb the entire life.

Till the time her little girl is not married she has to make sure that her girl is not involved in any scandal. From the day a girl is born in a family the parents have to be on their toes to ensure that she is married off without any hassle. Parents have to make a choice to spend whatever little they have on her education and keep searching for a groom equivalent to their daughter or save money to buy a good groom for her.  You have to protect her all through her life. She can never be a support you financially as that’s a sin in our society. So why would any girl want to feel vulnerable all her life. Why not have a baby boy and get rid of all the problems once for all. We have to change ourselves for better tomorrow. To invest minimum and with maximum returns. You don’t need to be a mathematician to come to this conclusion. Even an illiterate can make out, two into two makes four.

. So it’s not at all surprising that every female wants to give birth to a boy in her house. Till the time we don’t change our culture, our society and ourselves we cannot imagine to have a society where every female can freely wish to have a baby that is healthy and not spent sleepless nights wondering what if I give birth to a baby girl?
